Photograph. "Ernst's newest discovery -- Alighting from a TWA plane, Ernst Lubitsch arrived from New York -- where he saw the world premier of his 'Merry widow' -- and discovered a new special brand of cigars, of which he brought back a suitcase full. He's holding a supply of the new smokes." -- typed note attached to verso. "Tenors, 'ten-SHUN! You're about to come into your own.' So says no less an authority than Ernst Lubitsch, film director. Lubitsch arrived yesterday by TWA plane from New York, where he attended the premier of 'The merry widow,' which he directed. And he brought glad tidings for tenors. 'Grand opera on the screen is coming,' said Lubitsch. 'But before'".... -- Examiner clipping attached to verso, dated 31 October 1934.
