Read More8 months old son of father in Korea killed in auto accident, 1951
Supplementary material reads: "Wright nf Stewart & Newman. Sub: Flier's son. Illis. Ontario, Aug. 22 -- From an Air Force Base in Korea today came a letter from Staff Sergeant Henry Allen, 22, to his wife, Theresa (Terry) Allen, 20, asking about their 8-months-old son, Daniel Wayne Allen. He wrote: 'Terry, how is he getting along? I hope fine. You know, I can almost see him at times. If you will send me a picture of him, a good one -- and tell him Daddy sends his love...'. 'For Terry it was the final heartbreak. Two hours before the letter arrived, Danny, their only child, was fatally injured by a car as his grandmother, Mrs. Anna Custer, 45, was pushing him in a stroller across A street. Danny died in San Antonio Hospital 45 minutes after the accident, before his mother could reach his side. For her was left the task of writing the news to her husband, telling him that memories of the son he last saw in June were all that was left. Police Sergeant H. A. Smith said the driver of the car, Carles R. Landreth, of 217 Budd Street, ran into a traffic island in an attempt to avoid the child. Landreth was not held. Mrs. Custer, who lives with the Allens at 1130 East A Street, was treated for shock and minor bruises".
