Colonel Barney Oldfield, Director of Information for the Air Defense Command and author of an autobiography entitled "Never a Shot in Anger," just published by Duell, Sloan & Pearce, Inc., is shown prior to his departure from L.A. International Airport via Pan American World Airways for the Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia. Colonel Oldfield, a veteran newspaperman, radio speaker, and movie publicist before he donned his uniforn prior to World War II, more recently was Dwight D. Eisenhower's advance man when, in January, 1951, General of the Army Eisenhower was designated Supreme Allied Commander in Europe. Oldfield's book, loaded with anecdotes and descriptions of wartime military-press operation, is dedicated, namely, to the Fourth Estate. The book's appendix also includes a complete roster of the 1800 accredited war correspondents covering World War II".
