"Flying Secretary" presents original painting of City Hall to Los Angeles (Goodwill tour), 1958

(ask for Milt Samuel). "Flying Secretary" presents unique painting of landmark to city. Arriving in Los Angeles today is Miss Pat McKeen, the "Flying Secretary" aboard the "Flying Showcase." This is an airplane which is making a whirlwind trip to 38 cities in 41 days on a goodwill mission, bearing a unique gift to the Mayor of each town it visits. During the stopover here, Miss McKeen presented an original painting of the City Hall to George F. Herbert, Administrative Assistant to the Mayor, who received the picture in Mayor Poulson's absence from the city. This third-dimensional painting of the famous civic landmark has textural effects highlighting the subject and is the work of Edward Haas, darling contemporary artist from New York City. To create this "portrait-in-glue" the artist fills in his basic design in pencil or charcoal and completes the colored portion of the painting. Then he uses mucilage to add such diverse native materials as sand, shells, mica, rose quartz, cement, coal, limestone, pine cones, or tobacco. In connection with the 13,000 mile tour of the specially fitted DC-3 "Flying Showcase" which is also dramatizing a new sales technique of presenting the company's new products to its distributors, Pat McKeen carries out her normal secretarial duties that she performs on the ground at the home office, only now she's doing them 10,000 feet aloft. Her boss, Gil Reischmann, national field sales manager of Permacel-LePage's is aboard. The "Flying Showcase" started its trip from Newark Airport, March 14. Los Angeles is the fifteenth stop. The plane will leave Monday evening for San Fransisco".
