Caption slip reads: "Photographer: Gaze. Date: 1956-12-26/1957-12-08. Reporter: Gaze. Assignment: Malibu Fire anniversary. Special instructions: For Mon Dec 16, 1957. #63: Two goats that survived the fire approached the photog [sic] curiously when this photo was made of the lone chimney atanding at the home of the Pat McGoverns, 6032 Phillip ave., Malibu Mesa, on the morning of the blaze, The McGoverns had occupied their new home only two months before it was destroyed. #62: Five goats are in the herd heading toward the photog [sic] in this of the McGovern home as it looks today, completly rebuilt. The McGoverns, among those successful in obtaining a government loan to rebuild, made good use of part of their pre-fire foundation, and used some of the former fireplace bricks in their new chimney".
