Photograph. ".... watch your credit... International Newsreel photo, slug (negro demonstrator) -- A negro leader of today's riots on Capitol steps. -- Washington, D.C.... Powerfully-built negro who, accompanied by an aged white woman, was a leader of the army of 500 communists who took up their stand on the steps of the Capitol today to vent wrath while Congress was being formally reopened for the short term. Despite police interference, the demonstrators unfurled placards and continued their demonstrating, making it necessary for the guardians of the law to resort to tear gas bombs and clubs. Seven arrests were made, many of them aliens and members of the National Conventions for Protection of Foreign Born. (PS-12-1-30)" -- typed note attached to verso.
